The Tyger

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears;
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger, Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Bones of ancestors are mine
Roam the world knowing no time
Cold air flows sweet on my tongue
And pushes behind my back as I run
Fire burns the back of my brain
Blood flows black in my veins
I make my own way through this world that is mine
I am a part of the world that man fears to see
Untamed, I go forth and I know
The Privilege of Being
On this clear night I ascend to my place in the order of things
Sister Earth speaks to me daily and my mother the Moon said in a dream
To be one with the world as I know it
And to be all that the past and the future expect me to be
Swim streams of silver
Learn as I grow
Stars turn above me
And earth turns below
A lone cry asserts itself
A single shadow flies across the snow
It is my howl that freezes the sky and the hearts of men
For I have struck out on my own
Renegade and rebel, I cannot be tamed
For nature has elected me its king
Mine is the privilege of being tonight
And a Lone Wolf will I be

They call me the wandering one
Sailor of the floes
The whale’s bane, the seal’s dread
The iceberg-rider
The master of helping spirits
The white sea deer
Some refuse to speak my name
Out of respect and fear
I rule the ice and the frigid sea
But there’s less and less space for me
Pulling under, pulling in
Treading water to be
Moving slowly, walking sleep
Waiting for them to breathe
I rule the ice and the frigid sea
But I can’t make you believe
The thaw, the freeze, the ice recedes
I am the largest land predator on the planet
The top of the arctic food chain
My body is perfectly molded to the cold
I wait in silence for days for my prey to surface
The ice breaks away!
Never will the lonely roamer be subdued
The old man in the furred cloak will not bow to the earth’s new masters
The northern lights will preserve my old spirit
And I will watch over from the wind, the sky, and the sea
I rule the ice and the frigid sea
And now nothing else can contain me
Watching over, looking out
All the answers to see
“Almost a man”, always a beast
Bodily captives, our spirits are free!
